I am pleased to be associated with OpenMic.us. By providing
musicians with a public performance stage, you are really making a
difference.

Open Mic Musician
Your Open Mic Series has provided a great outlet for musicians to
hone their skills and increase their exposure. Including the CDs made
from these venues, I`ve been able to network and book gigs that I would
have been unable to otherwise. I am very appreciative of that.
But there is another, more intangible benefit of Open Mic Atlanta
that deserves recognition.
Seven years ago, when I went to my first open mic, my personal life
was in disarray; I was in a bad frame of mind. But at least, for a few
hours a week, I was able to forget about life for awhile. And I always
felt better after going to an open mic. Over time, I not only
rediscovered the joy of making music, I was able to create enduring
friendships. Both are immeasurable; both have helped me enormously in
getting through the rough times.
Your open mics are good for the soul.
Thanks. RR

Hey Claudia!
How are you doing? My name is Blane Richoux and I just moved to Atlanta
from New York; Last week, actually.
Let me tell you how much the Open Mic website has helped me out. I`ve
been getting a very positive response from all the places I`ve played,
and it really takes the stress out of moving to a new town.

Hi David,
I remember driving to my first Atlanta open mic. It was a couple of
years ago, and I had found out about it through the open mic atlanta
website. I was extremely nervous, but I had this feeling that I was
finally doing something about my dream of playing music. When I arrived
at the venue all of the other open-micers were so supportive that
my nervousness soon subsided. It was the first time that I had decided
to do an open mic without making sure that all my friends were
there, really, my first without a safety net. This one was for me.
I played my songs and talked with the other musicians as well as the
host. I was invited back and told about some other great open mics. I
continued playing Atlanta open mics, including many of the SoCo
series ones, for the rest of the year.
I could feel my confidence gaining every time, and when I returned
to school in Massachusetts I began booking shows around campus and
eventually some off campus. The last year has been beyond my
wildest dreams. I have toured three times, all over the country,
had a lot of musical success, and released two E.P.`s. I started an
Atlanta based non-profit called wonderroot to help other artists and
rally the arts community around service. I moved to New York City, a
fairly scary music scene, and felt confident in playing out all over the
city. Currently I am working on my first full length and planning
a Fall tour. I have been offered opening spots with larger bands
and really feel at home in the music community.
I can honestly say that without my open mic experience none of
this would have been possible. You can find an open mic in any
city in the country any night of the week. There is always
somewhere to play and people that want to listen. Every show and
open mic is a growing and learning experience. Some will go well
and others not so well, but you always walk away having progressed. I
will always be grateful for the opportunities and lessons that
playing at open mics afforded me, especially the ones in my
hometown of Atlanta, and they will always be a big part of my life.
All of the people that I have met, the communities that opened their
arms to me, and that feeling of closing your eyes and taking in an
applause is what I have decided to dedicate my life to.

Dave,
It was nice meeting you last night at Laseters Tavern! Yall
seemed to be kind folks. Thank you very much hosting. I`ve done a few
open mics, but never one that seemed so well organized. I love the
idea of the free CD of your performance. Next time I visit an open mic
I`ll give you a spindle of CDs. Maybe next time I`ll drop the dobro,
pick up the acoustic and sing a few.

Dave -
Just a little note to you about your open mic nights. We have been
playing in the Atlanta Area for the last 14 years and have played a lot
of clubs over the years, but we still had a hard time breaking into new
venues. With the advent of the open mic series you have been
handling,
we have opened new doors. Last week, we played a short set at one
of your open mics, and before we got off the stage good, the music
director of the venue had already offered us a paying gig for
the following week...we appreciate the opportunities that have come our
way thru the open mic series. Last night at another venue, we
went on late and played another short set and I think that we will be
back at that venue soon with another paying gig. So this has
become our new mantra "find another open mic, get another gig"

Craver,
This CD from last Tuesday is kick-ass! I`ve already gotten tremendous
feedback. They couldn`t believe it was from an open mic.
Next time I see you I`ll give you a few copies. I`m telling ya, it will
get us gigs. Great mix of songs, good harmonies, great harmonica and
guitar.

Dave,
I can't begin to express the the joy I feel after last nights
songwriters club. Your suggestions along with everyone else`s input has
resulted in a complete rewrite of Two Hearts . I just finished it and
saw this email and felt I should write you. I spent all day playing
and writing from a different prospective. All of this was possible due
to what you shared.
What you and Claudia have done by starting this club and sharing your
talents and knowledge has made a huge difference in my life. Thank you
both for being a stand for songwriters. You have touched moved and
inspired me. Thanks for making a difference in this world.

Open Mic Host
Dear Dave,
I really appreciate the opportunity I`ve had to host your Open Mic
Atlanta venues. I have made
some incredible friends in the process. I`ve also met co-writers and
like minded people
who really appreciate the camaraderie that is often missing in the music
world.
I`d recommend (hosting an open mic) to any musician who is looking to
network - there really
is no better way to connect to the musicians on the scene.

Open Mic Musician
Dave,
Thank you so much for giving musicians an opportunity to go out and be
heard. In October of 2004, I went to my first open mic and loved
it. It really helped to ease my stage fright. Each week I
would go play wherever I could and in November was being approached by
bar owners to gig. Open mic gave me the chance to play, meet new
people, and have a lot of fun.
I am now getting to do what I love and am seeing my dreams unfold.Thank
you again for everything.

Open Mic Musician
David,
I went to one of the Open Mic Atlanta Open Mic last
Wednesday with John Gardner as a fill in host for Roy Glen Key.
Although I have been playing music for many years it was my first time
at an open mic. I just wanted to say that I appreciate your hosts and
their attitude towards the musicians. They made me feel comfortable and
eased my "stage fright".
Again, thank you for running such a class act!
